the individualists...

I've been meaning to post all week, as the postcards were just rolling in, however I was quite preoccupied with studying for my mid-year exams that are fast approaching.. eek! So yes, I'm procrastinating, but is this not a worthy subject? Well I think so, and here I am! So over the past week I received 4 postcards in total, but each came to me as individuals, alone in the world, that is until they joined my collection! Well they are still individual of course, with their own stories to to be told.
Here we have Mr Sustainable and Miss Art both given to me by Deb, who watched me get very excited just for one postcard. (both printed in 2008)

Next up we have 'Lady of the Air' found in my room by Emma, who was looking for study notes in a box under my bed. Its dated 2008 as well! Not that individual after all...

(Lady of the Air is by Karen Deeney '07)

And last but not least is a postcard from New Zealand from my friend Jacqui who couldn't quite remember who it was that loved postcards and bought it anyway.

Oh Em GEEE!

Such a boring week at school...that was until one recess this week as I was sitting eating my lamingtons, the highlight of the day so far, when Caroline (*edit: after being informed by Hannah*) informs me of something extremely wonderful... there's a postcard stand in the library! OH EM GEEEEEEEE!! As I thought to myself when I would be down there next, I realised that I had a study period in the library the very following period! So off I went, oh so excited and seated myself at one of the computers, glancing around for this amazing new stand.. but I couldn't see it.. so I continued with my note-making when my friend Jemma asked me if I had seen the postcard stand, as she had thought of me immediately - knowing of my obsession. I told her I hadn't and asked where it was. She pointed and as I turned around on the awesome wheely chair, there it was! Right behind the printer! It was amazing - I even took a photo of it:

And here are some of the awesome postcards I got from it -

1. Designed by Patricia Denis for advant card (check out her own blog here)
Love this so much, its so intricate and cool

Faces!
2. Pi! I didn't even realise it was educational until I just looked at the back of it!
3. For the macquarie Science Club... This Picture is an illusion!

4. Another Alice In Wonderland one!

And some more educational ones!
5. Cut out triangles to make a Triangle mobile!

6. The Importance of Eating Breakfast

Oh Em GEE! What a great week :D

Drama, Drama, Drama

Upon the return of the year 12 drama class from their excursion last week, my friend Angela told me that besides what fun they'd had, her and my other friend Nadine had gotten me some postcards! But as scandalous as it was, Nadine had gone home, taking the postcards with her!
Thankfully not all hope was lost when she brought them to school this week, and after a little prompt from me...'soo... you've got some postcards for me I heard..' I received them.
(they actually tell this story!)
1. *gasp* no postcards
(actually advertising that drugs are bad...)

2. "this world is filthy" oh so pessamistic

3. oh the drama of receiving postcards
(this is an advert for the Sydney theatre company)

4. YAY im happy now
(Advert to bring the FIFA World Cup to Australia)

What an adventure!

The tranquil and the crazy

While I was left to babysit on Friday, some of my family went and saw Avatar in 3D with some family friends. It was today, that my mum decided to remember they'd picked up some postcards for me. Out of the ones that they got (all 12), there were some pretty awesome ones.

First were these, which are a really great idea and gave me a little pick me up as I took the time to scratch away at the grey surface to find out what my free compliments were. I'm so glad they got two of these.

Then came a stark difference with my favs. First are the tranquil

1. "The dangers of playing favourites with your children" King Lear performed by Bell Shakespeare.

2. Four winds Festival - loved this one, so cool how the violin is buried in sand, wonderful image

3. Advert for The National Youth Self Portrait Prize 2010 presented by the National Portrait Gallery - also loved this one, simply because it looks so vintage and wonderful

But amongst the tranquil is always something crazy:

I can't wait to see this movie! It shall be very exciting indeed.

the foreign, the exotic and the interesting

From my friend Frances, I received some postcards. They were actually from her sister Sarah, who knows about my obsession with these wonderful things that are postcards. The postcards were from Singapore and Thailand! Here are some of the ones that she sent me:

I loved the one in the bottom left, the building/stairs in this postcard look so awesome and so colourful. The caption at the bottom of the postcard says 'Famous historical building at Bugis Village' Here's another image of the stairs:

Aren't they just wonderful?

And these are the ones from the beautiful Thailand, I love scenic photos, so these caught my eye immediately:

3 women... each with their own story...

Last week has been one filled with postcards... well there have been many the same and I'm sure many after, but regardless, I have been a very happy. After the postcards from Caroline and Nicki, yet another friend of mine Angela made a contribution to my postcards with a total of 7! My favourite ones were these:

1. Play titled 'That Face

2. Exhibit presented by the Historic Houses Trust
3. ' Katie Noonan for the Art Gallery of NSW

I especially liked this because they featured women, yet each represents something completely and utterly different with the others. Their only similarity from just looking at these postcards, as far as I can tell, is their sex.

smooth as silk

hello all, I'm sorry that I haven't blogged in a while, considering school started back up again and i was overwhelmed by the late night rush to complete some homework tasks unfinished in the holidays.

However, school going back happened to be a marvellous thing as on my very first day back I received postcards!! These were from my friend Caroline, who has been previously featured for her Libyan and Italian postcards. This time, on her return flight home, she picked up some postcards from Thai Airways. Their slogan is as 'smooth as silk' which I'm sure refers to their services, which Caroline will have to verify for me, but the bright colours of these postcards are amazing to look, and while really standing out, look so smooth - hence the blog title
I love how the blue provides a create contrast to the warm colours of the other 2 postcards

Then on Wednesday I was happily surprised when my friend Nicki told me she had some postcards for me. In the midst of maths, she pulls out 2 identical postcards....
As shocked as I was to have such raunchy postcards - though I'm sure many men would pick this one up - i was happy for these to be added to the collection.
