Two of a kind

As I mentioned a couple of posts ago, it was my birthday in the school holidays (2 weeks ago), I turned 18!  This was the awesome postcard I recieved from my family in America, thankyou so much! I love it!
1. I love my cupcakes, so this was icing on the cake :P (pun intended)

In the middle holidays, I went with my friends Angela, Emma, Elizabeth, Hannah and Matt to film for Angela's drama major work for the HSC. She chose to film some of it at Elizabeth Bay House, this beautiful house from the 1800s in Sydney City. It was so cool. I saw that they had postcards and Angela's mum bought one for me! I was pretty excited, and very greatful of course. Here it is - its a sketch of the house by some guy named Conrad Martens. Its so detailed and fragile, i love it.

Curiouser and curiouser...

What a wonderland of postcards I recieved from my friend Alice last week, who popped by my house to drop off some birthday cards - I turned 18 last week!! Just as exciting as recieving 27 postcards from her, some of my favourites are posted below.

First we have some comical ones indeed, I just like them for their bright colours and cute/quirky characters that feature on them
1. Animania Festival 2010       2. Class Clowns 2010
                                                            - National Secondary
                                                             School Comedy Competition

Next we have some more arty postcards. The first I like for its simplicity and the second I absolutely love because its composition is simply amazing. I am especially loving the giraffe - one of my most favourite animals - as well as the background, which isnt really all that clear in this photo, but if you follow the link underneath there is an image of it, as well as some of the other simply brilliant work that Steven Sandner has done.
1. VS Macbeth      2.Curious Design by Steven Sandner

Next up are just some really random ones that I like for all different reasons.
Mr top-left: for his own bright colours and use of the words 'advant card' in the background
Miss Bottom-Left: for her amazing design with the paper which I love - as part of my year 12 art course, I have to do a 'major work'
3. "Magic Cards" by Yves Albrechts      5. curriculum card for photosynthesis
4. Ad by 'The Red Room Comapany             6. National Gallery of Australia
for their national&free poetry edu. program
called "papercuts"

And another cirriculum card about figs... i'll let you try and read the facts down there....
7. Curriculum card: The Fig

the biggest most awesome waste of time??

There are so many things that different people consider to be wastes of time.. facebook, homework, school, reading, sports and yes even blogging. However much of a waste of time they may be, there are many people that consider them to be in fact awesome, fun and even cool.
According to this postcard it seems the biggest most awesome waste of time would have to be creating paper aeroplanes. It even includes a bandaid on the back with the caption 'paper cut first aid kit' - cute!

1. Advert for BPAY - paying bills online as well as their 'World's Biggest Most Wesome Waste of Time Competition'

Love the font and the colour however simple
2. Put out by the Australian GOvernment for the Fair Work Ombudsman

When I looked at this one, I felt bad for the dog, it looks so cute, thank goodness its just a postcard - as I am very very very afraid of dogs. Upon turning it over I realised it was meant to be quite funny. According the the back, this dog's name is Lucky who fell off the couch from laughing so hard at a comedy dvd that had been left in the player.

Now I'm off to finish the piles of holiday homework which I have yet to finish.

old wonderments

I've been meaning to mention it for a while now, but I have opened up the comments to anyone and everyone so even if you dont have whatever account needed before to comment, feel free to write down your thoughts :)

Back to the postcards.
Well I actually found these a few days ago, but due to my delayed blogging at the moment, I shall write about them now. They were in the bottom of one of my mum's art tubs - she has many amazing things lying around in their own organised mess - and I convinced her to part with these because she loves me. Yay!

1. merry christmas from advant card 2005
I am loving the little quote on there that reads 'It doesn't matter what other people think - the most important thing is that you believe in yourself'
So true!

2. Angel by Steve Tierney 2003
Also loving this postcard, its three panels and the almost monochromatic theme to it, so pretty to look at.

3. The Pittsburgh Hilton
Oh Em GEE!! My very first vintage postcard!! I was so very excited when I discovered this one especially. There is no date on it, so I can't tell how old it really is, but let's just call it vintage anyway.

easter with some randoms...

A very late happy easter to all! I hope everyone stuffed their faces full of chocolate, I certainly did! I also recieved/found a few random postcards which was great!
The first is from my brother Adam, who got the socceroo's show bag from the Sydney Royal Easter Show last Saturday, it was really cute when he gave it to me, he knows how much I love postcards of course.
1. FIFA World Cup 2010 South Africa

These next 2 were just randomly found lying on my desk waiting to be blogged, what patience they had to lie amounst the mess. Love the eckersley one, I'm hoping to find another soon so I can actually draw something on it.
2. Sydney Morning Herald                                  3. Eckersely's (an art and craft store)

And finally a postcard from one of my most favourite clothing stores, Valley Girl, who were promoting Earth Hour that just recently passed, an amazing event that promotes protecting the world around us. I love this image, the model is so cool and the wall behind her is an amazing piece of art.
4. Valley Girl for Earth Hour

What a fantastical easter!

From my second home..

I am truely sorry for not posting for a little while, it has been a very busy week so far, having started school holidays last thursday. As exciting as that is, even more exciting is the fact that I have recieved many postcards over the last week and I will try extra hard over the next few days to catch up.

On my mum's return from America, as sad as her reasons were for going over there, I was delighted that she was able to bring me back some postcards.
1. From the Missouri Botanical Gardens
Missouri, specifically St. Louis being my second home across the pacific ocean where a lot of my mum's side of the family live. I believe my cousins helped to pick this one out, at least thats what I think mum said when she gave me these, so thankyou just in case, I love it!

2. Not sure what this is for... I'll find out tomorrow from my mum and post an update, I think its a tv show from what I can tell from the website on the back. Regardless its a pretty cool image, very dangerous looking..

3. A propaganda Poster from the United States 1944
If only it was actually vintage, instead of a photograph of a vintage poster.. still it is pretty awesome.
On this note, I've started looking out for vintage postcards because they would be a really cool addition to my collection, if you see any for sale in sydney or online, let me know :)
